Who We Are

Governing Body of
Fencing in J&K

The Jammu & Kashmir Fencing Association (JKFA) is the apex body responsible for the administration, promotion, and development of the sport of fencing in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

Affiliated with the Fencing Association of India (FAI) and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), JKFA operates under the framework set by the International Fencing Federation (FIE).

Our mission is to identify talent at every level, provide world-class training infrastructure, and represent J&K with distinction on the national and international stage.

Our Journey

History of
Fencing in J&K

From the ancient origins of swordsmanship to the modern Olympic sport — fencing's journey in Jammu & Kashmir spans decades of passion, dedication, and achievement.

1896
Olympic Origins
Fencing became one of the original modern Olympic sports at the Athens Games of 1896, establishing a legacy of discipline, technique, and sportsmanship.
1913
FIE Founded
The Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE) was established in Paris, creating the international governing body standardising rules and overseeing world championships.
1960s
Fencing Arrives in India
The sport gained traction in India, with the Fencing Association of India (FAI) eventually formed to represent the country at international competitions.
2003
JKFA Established
The Jammu & Kashmir Fencing Association was founded to administer and promote fencing across the region, marking the beginning of organised competitive fencing in J&K.
Present
Growing the Sport
Today, JKFA actively conducts state-level championships, talent identification camps, coaches development programmes, and sends athletes to national competitions.

Three Weapons,
One Art

Fencing is a combat sport involving two competitors using bladed weapons fought on a narrow strip called the piste.

Foil
A light thrusting weapon targeting the torso. Points scored only with the tip. Right-of-way applies — tactical timing is critical.
Target: Torso · Thrust Only
⚔️
Épée
The heaviest weapon with the entire body as target. No right-of-way — simultaneous hits both score. Rewards patience and precision.

Sabre
A cutting and thrusting weapon targeting the upper body. The fastest-paced discipline, demanding explosive athleticism.

FIE
Fédération Internationale d'Escrime
International governing body of fencing headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland. Founded in 1913, FIE oversees world championships, Olympic qualification, and global rule-setting.
FAI
Fencing Association of India
National governing body of fencing in India, affiliated with FIE and IOA. FAI organises national championships and selects the Indian team for international events.
IOA
Indian Olympic Association
Apex body of the Olympic movement in India, responsible for sending Indian athletes to the Olympic Games and overseeing all affiliated national sports federations.
JKFA
J&K Fencing Association
State association governing fencing in J&K. Responsible for athlete registration, state-level competitions, talent development, and athlete welfare programmes.
SAI
Sports Authority of India
Government body providing funding, infrastructure, and coaching support for sports development across India, including fencing academies and training centres.
JKSSC
J&K Sports & Stadia Council
UT-level sports authority managing sports facilities, events, and athlete support infrastructure across Jammu & Kashmir.
